Studies of Catholic life continue to show that only 1% of children and teens who receive Sacraments are still Catholics after college if they did not grow up with a) weekly Mass attendance (as a faithful act of worshipful love), b) orgranic practice of the faith at home (i.e. talking about one another's spiritual lives as a normal topic of conversation, praying together regularly, etc.), and c) active parish involvement (e.g. consistent financial support of the mission of the parish, volunteering, attending faith formation opportunities and social events, etc.).

Finally, a note for those children preparing to receive Sacraments:

Confession can be received as early as the end of 2nd grade (after at least 1 year of preparation).
Confirmation & Holy Communion are received together as early as the end of 3rd grade (after at least 2 years of preparation). [For older students who received Holy Communion separately as children, Confirmation may be received on its own after at least 2 years of preparation.]
